How do I know I'm really at the E-Gold website?
You can tell if you are at the e-gold website by making sure that the URL in your browser Address or Location bar begins with "http://www.e-gold.com/" or "https://www.e-gold.com/".
Also, double-click the padlock icon that appears in the lower right corner of your browser when at a secure page and verify that the SSL certificate is "Issued To" or "Belongs To" www.e-gold.com and is issued by www.verisign.com / Verisign Inc.

It's easy; it's fast - no credit check (because your account is always in credit; that is, it has some or no e-gold in it. It is not possible to have a
negative balance with an e-gold account); an account is free - no minimum balance requirement.
Opening a free e-gold account:
(it is a good idea to have a printer connected to the computer you are using as when you have finished filling in the form it is recommended you then print
it out. If you do not have a printer make sure you write down accurately all the information you use).
- Click on this link to

- the first screen is the e-gold "terms and conditions" page. You need to agree to these by clicking on the "I AGREE" button on the bottom on the page.
- On the next page is the sign up form.
- "Account name" - here is where you name your account - tip: make it easy to remember (as you will be asked for it) and reasonably short, example,
"John's e-gold", "My Money e-gold" or perhaps "Felix" (whatever you like, just make it easy for you to remember it). You may leave "Description" and
"Additional description" blank.
- "User Name" - here just repeat the account name (from 1 above) or enter your "regular name" (Note that there is a common-law principle that you can use any name you like,
provided you don't do so to defraud.) You may leave "Description" blank.
- "Point of Contact" - this is where you put our name, address, phone number and email address (any email address can be used here but it is recommended
you use your ISP address - not a free hotmail, etc address).
It is also recommended your also include a fax number . If you don't have a fax, leave that part blank. Enter under "alternate passphrase" any combination of 6 or more numbers or letters (including at least
one number).
Try and make it as easy as possible or e-gold to contact you.
Make sure all your details are accurate and remember if any of your details change in the future to update your e-gold account profile. This is very
important, if you ever lose or forget your passphrase (password) to your e-gold account you will only get it back if e-gold can contact you using your profile
information (you do not want to be locked out of your own e-gold account so keep it up to date).
- "Passphrase" - this is the most important piece of information connected to any e-gold account. We can not stress enough how important it is that your
passphrase is kept safe and secure.
Your passphrase must be unique (not use anywhere else) and it needs to be long like a sentence (hence it is called a passPHRASE not passWORD). Something
like "A quick brown dog jumped over the lazy fox" would be a good one (please do not use it ... make up your own short sentence).
IMPORTANT- WRITE DOWN THE ACCOUNT NAME, ALTERNATE PASSPHRASE, AND PASSPHRASE ON A SEPARATE PAPER BEFORE
YOU CLICK "OPEN." PUT THESE NAMES IN A SAFE PLACE.
If you lose it you will find it hard gaining access to your e-gold account.
For extra security you can type your passphrase in using the "SRK" java keyboard (click on this symbol
).
- "Turing Number Entry" - type the 6 numbers you see there into the input box
below.
!!! it is not your e-gold account number. - The last step click "Open"
On the next page it will tell you that your e-gold account number has been emailed to you. It will also tell you to remember your passphrase (a very good
idea).
Ok, go check your email - you can expect to wait up to 5 minutes for your account number to arrive, be patient. If it does not arrive after 5 minutes then
that means the email address you supplied was incorrect and you will have to open another new account (go through and repeat what you just did above again).
Once you receive your account number in your email go and log in to our new e-gold account (this is a good test that everything is ok and your passphrase
is correct).
Congratulations, you now have your own account! Now all you need is some e-gold in it!

It's possible that they have some technical problems. At the homepage of e-gold they annonced a scheduled downtime , and possibly it took longer than expected, or they had problems to get it running properly again.
Other possibility is your e-mail provider: the e-gold-staff said that they don't accept so called anonymous e-mail services like yahoo etc.
Maybe that's the problem? Another member here told us about the same problem, but after he changed his e-mail it worked.
Also some spam filters do not accept e-gold letters. Try to disable it.

This may be a fault of your browser. Please make sure you have enabled javascript and cookies as these are vital for access to ones account. We highly suggest for you to clean cookies and all temp files from your system, as well as possibly upgrading your browser to the newest versions. If everything fails, then you should contact e-gold, to reset password so you can then try access with temporary details.
What is a Turing number?
A Turing number is a randomly generated image that displays a series of digits. A user attempting to login to his or her account must
be able to read back the digits and correctly echo them back to the e-gold website. The purpose of the Turing number is to prevent automated
access to accounts. For the visually impaired, an audible turing number is available which provides the same benefits of the turing number,
except that it is presented audibly rather than visually.
What is my passphrase? What happens if I lose it? How do I recover a lost passphrase?
Your passphrase is the key that opens your account. Your passphrase is stored in e-gold database in encrypted form, so that even they cannot learn it.
Never reveal your passphrase to anybody - not even to an employee of e-gold Ltd. or G&SR. If you forget your passphrase, this may help you to remember:
- Your passphrase is at least six characters long
- Your passphrase contains both letters and digits.
- Capitalization matters. If this does not jog your memory, we can provide you with a temporary passphrase via this procedure:
- Send e-mail to [email protected], referencing your e-gold account number in the subject line of your message. Do not include your passphrase!!
- E-gold will contact you using the contact information in our system to provide you your temporary password and to provide you additional instructions.
Please note: If the contact information in our system is not accurate, they will not be able to provide you a temporary passphrase so it is
very important that this information be accurate and up to date.
What is SSL?
Pages on the e-gold Ltd. web site that require your account password or display/edit account information, are secured using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. To protect this information from others you are best served using 128 bit SSL ("strong encryption"). Lesser strength encryption (e.g. 40 bit SSL) can be "broken" in a matter of days or less. 128 bit encryption is over 300,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times harder to break than 40 bit encryption.
e-gold Ltd. uses an SSL server certificate that allows modern web browser software to utilize the advantages of 128-bit security. The type of technology used in this certificate goes by several names: "Global Server ID", "SGC Special Digital certificate", and "Super Certificate".

...then you will connect to SSL protected e-gold web pages using 128 bit "strong encryption" technology from anywhere in the world.
Note: If you use IE5+, and double-click the padlock icon while viewing a page encrypted with the e-gold Ltd. certificate, you may notice the phrase
"This certificate has failed to verify for all of it's (sic) intended purposes". There is a difference between the Verisign Primary CA and International
CA that causes this. The International CA certificate has more capabilities defined than the top level Primary CA. If you wish to make this message stop
appearing, you can choose the "Certification Path" tab in the pop up dialog, select the top level certificate, click "View Certificate", select the "Details"
tab, click "Edit Properties", and then select "Enable all purposes for this certificate".

How do I check my account history?
The first step is to log into your e-gold account. A quick way to reach the log-in screen for e-gold is to type the URL
or click the link at left. This link takes you to the log-in screen for e-gold account holders.
Once you've logged in, you want to visit the history page. There is an icon that looks like a sheet of paper at the top of your account access screen which says "history." Click on it.
You'll be taken to another screen that asks what information you want to review. This "history inquiry" page asks you what time period you want to examine. It defaults to the current day's activity. If you want to see the whole year's activity (often that takes up several pages, depending on how many transactions you have), set the start date to 1 January 2002. Set the end date to today's date.
Next, on that same screen, you need to choose what type of events you want to review. Do you want to just review payments received from other users? Great. That's already checked for you. Click on "okay" and you should see all the payments for the time period you chose. Do you want to see all events? There is a button to "select all" options, and it checks everything for you. Or pick and choose for yourself.
You can also select a specific batch number, or see all the events pertaining to another e-gold account, by typing the information you're seeking into the relevant box on this inquiry page. A batch number is the identifying number associated with a particular event, such as a spend. When you spend e-gold to someone else, you'll be shown a batch number generated by e-gold.com once you've confirmed the spend. Batch numbers can be used to identify specific inquiries on the history page. Just copy it into the relevant text box on the form, or type the batch number into place.
Once you've asked the e-gold server for the data you seek, click on "okay" and you should see it onscreen. Give it a few seconds to load the page. Also, notice that there is a "next page" button which displays if the data you've requested fills more than one screen. Before you get upset that information is missing, be sure to look for "next page."
There are a bunch of different types of transaction which may appear in your history. For example, incentive payments are payments e-gold.com makes to you if you've sponsored someone else to create an e-gold account. This new account is called a "progeny" of your account. You get incentive payments every time that progeny account spends or receives e-gold.
Things that bring e-gold into your account appear at left - such as payments received, bailment events, and so forth. The exception is incentive fees at the bottom of the right hand column. Things that move e-gold out of your account, such as storage or spend fees, transfers you've made, and redemptions appear at right.
At this point, you may wonder about bailment and redemption. Unless you have a 400 ounce bar of gold, or 400 ounces of gold (recently about $137,600 worth; the dollar price varies daily) in your e-gold account, you probably aren't going to need to worry about these events. However, briefly, bailment is when someone takes a bar of gold to the e-gold Special Purpose Bullion Trust and your account is credited. Redemption is when you turn in e-gold and request a physical bar of metal be delivered to you. There are fees for both types of events.
How do I download data from my account?
You can get a comma separated variable file with the information from your account history by clicking on the relevant link in the history page. The data.csv file will be saved to your computer - just follow the screens and give the data file a name you'll remember.
Once you have downloaded the data, you can import it into Microsoft� Excel or Quicken� or another accounting program you like. We recommend that you download separate events into separate files to avoid confusion.
For example, download all the payments received (revenues) into one file. Download all the spends (payments made, or expenses) into another file. After you import these files into a spreadsheet program or an accounting program, you can work with the data pretty easily - add it all up, calculate percentages or averages, figure out your profit.
What is a batch number?
The batch number is a number assigned by the e-gold system to each related group of transactions. The batch number appears on all e-gold Spend confirmations and appears as well in your e-gold account history. The same batch number appears in the respective account histories of both Spender and Recipient; therefore, the batch number is a useful reference when communicating about an e-gold Spend.
